Multicolour Maths is a visual method of learning mathematics invented by British artist Brook Tate, a painter who loves colours and patterns.
As someone who suffered from a fear of maths, Brook followed his intuition and discovered a way to translate the foundations of mathematics into a visual language. Ten colours, three shapes, and a sketchbook of paintings later, the Multicolour Maths method was born!
The method was presented at the British Society of Research into Learning Mathematics in June 2024 and has since received National attention on BBC News. It is now featured as part of National Numeracy’s school toolkit! Students and teachers around the world are discovering a whole new world of maths, helping develop the method, and changing maths, and lives, forever!
Alex, an entrepreneur and mum to 3 children, deals with the business side of things including operations and strategy. Alex too struggled with maths and was captivated by Brook's Multicolour Maths method and the huge potential it has to make a tangible difference in the lives of children, particularly children with SEND.
Alex's career journey began in the dynamic world of media at MTV and EMI, before taking a creative leap to launch an Italian street food business (she's half Italian!) which she sold just before having children.
She now runs a charity, The Together Space, whose mission is to tackle social segregation for children, families and young people with disabilities by providing mixed ability opportunities to exercise, socialise, relax and play together. She can't wait to share Brook's amazing invention of Multicolour Maths with the world having already seen the sparks, learning and beauty it's created with her own children.
